Story 6: Bhutta Bhaiyya and the Monsoon Mess

The skies over Sabzi Nagar were dark and moody. The clouds had gathered like gossiping aunties before a wedding, and every sabzi was rushing to pack up before the monsoon downpour began.

Except one.

Bhutta Bhaiyya, the tall, golden corn-on-the-cob, stood proudly in the middle of the playground, arms outstretched.

“Rain? Bring it on! I’m maize-d for this!” he announced, grinning ear to ear.

“Bhutta Bhaiyya,” warned Aloo Amma, “you’ll get soaked! Your silk will frizz!”

But Bhutta Bhaiyya was unfazed. “I was born in a field! Rain is my best friend!”

Just then, a big THUNDER-KADAK-BOOM rolled through the sky. The first drop fell... then another... then a downpour!

Within seconds, Bhutta Bhaiyya’s ‘hero pose’ turned into a soggy situation.

His kernels were squelching, his moustache was drooping, and he sneezed, “Ah-choo-cornflakes!”

Bindi Bai and Mithu Mango peeked out from under a large banana leaf.

“He’s going to turn into boiled corn soon,” muttered Bindi Bai.

“I brought some salt and lemon, just in case,” whispered Mithu.

Bhutta Bhaiyya trudged toward them, completely drenched.

“Okay. Fine. The rain is... slightly more than I expected.”

“Come in, Bhutta,” said Aloo Amma kindly. “Sometimes even strong sabzis need shelter.”

Bhutta Bhaiyya sneezed again and slumped under the leaf with the others.

Mithu Mango handed him a towel. “Next time, Bhaiyya, maybe just send the rain a text instead of hugging it.”

Everyone laughed, including the now-steaming Bhutta.

“Alright, alright,” he chuckled. “Maybe I am better grilled than drenched.”

Moral:

Being brave is wonderful but being wise is even better, especially during monsoons!
